Blepharoplasty in Newport Beach
If drooping upper lids, puffy under-eye bags, or a perpetually tired look are making you appear older than you feel, blepharoplasty—commonly known as eyelid surgery or an eye lift—can restore a naturally refreshed appearance.
We offer several options tailored to your needs:
Upper blepharoplasty corrects sagging or hooded eyelids that may impair vision or make your eyes appear smaller.
Lower blepharoplasty targets under-eye puffiness, bags, and fine wrinkles, rejuvenating the lower eyelid and smoothing the midface.
Combined upper and lower blepharoplasty enhances the entire eye area and is often paired with a facelift for a seamless, youthful transition from cheek to eyelid.
Using precise incisions hidden in natural creases or just below the lash line, I carefully preserve your eye’s unique shape and expression, delivering smooth, alert results that never look artificial or overdone.
Our Patients Before & After Results
Your Consultation: What To Expect During Your Blepharoplasty Consultation
Upper Blepharoplasty
In your upper blepharoplasty consultation, we’ll discuss concerns like hooded eyelids, vision impairment, or a heavy, tired look. I’ll assess your eyelid anatomy and explain how excess skin and fat contribute to aging, using my Anatomy of Aging approach with diagrams comparing youthful versus aged eyelids.
We’ll review incisions in the natural eyelid crease, share before-and-after cases, and discuss the 30-45 minute procedure with anesthesia options—local with sedation or IV sedation—based on your comfort.
Lower Blepharoplasty
For lower blepharoplasty, we’ll focus on issues like under-eye bags, puffiness, or midface shadows. I’ll explain how fat bulges and skin laxity affect your appearance and how removal or repositioning restores a smooth eyelid-to-cheek transition.
We’ll discuss external incisions below the lash line or internal approaches for younger patients, plus options like chemical peels or fat grafting. Before-and-after examples will illustrate outcomes, and we’ll cover the 45–60-minute procedure and anesthesia preferences.
Combined Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty
If you’re considering both, we’ll evaluate your entire eye area, especially if paired with a facelift for cheek continuity. I’ll detail how combined procedures address upper and lower eyelid aging holistically, using diagrams to show how they enhance eye color visibility and facial harmony.
We’ll review the 1.5-2-hour procedure, incisions, and anesthesia, ensuring all concerns—like makeup smudging or subtle results in younger patients—are addressed.
The goal of this consultation is to educate you on my approach while making sure all your questions and concerns are thoroughly addressed.
Preoperative Preparation
The second appointment we’ll have is your pre-op appointment. It lasts about an hour and takes place about 2 weeks prior to your blepharoplasty.
During this appointment we’ll review the procedure once again, discuss any specific risks, complete all consent forms, conduct a physical exam, and address medical concerns and existing medications like diabetes and blood pressure with lab work if needed.
We take photos, prescribe medications, and collect payment, while a nurse provides written postoperative care instructions, ensuring you’re prepared without last-minute pharmacy visits.
On the day of surgery, you’ll bring your prescribed medications, which we administer upon check-in. As they take effect I’ll review the surgery again with you, mark the areas, and may supplement oral sedation with an intramuscular injection for comfort during numbing. Local anesthesia allows you to go home promptly post-surgery, fully awake.
Blepharoplasty Surgery Walkthrough
Upper Blepharoplasty
This 30-45 minute procedure begins with numbing or IV sedation, tailored to your preference. I mark the natural eyelid crease with your eyes closed to determine excess skin removal, ensuring proper eye closure and shape.
Through a precise incision in the crease, I remove extra skin and, if needed, fat bulges near the nasal area. Incisions are closed with varied suturing techniques to blend scars seamlessly, opening the eyes for a dramatic, rested look that enhances first impressions.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Lasting 45-60 minutes (longer with fat grafting), lower blepharoplasty starts with numbing or IV sedation. For older patients, I make an external incision below the lash line to remove excess skin, closing it precisely to minimize scarring.
Fat is removed or repositioned to eliminate bulges, and fat grafting may enhance contours. Skin and muscle toning ensures a smooth eyelid-to-cheek transition, avoiding a sunken appearance.
Combined Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty
Taking 1.5–2 hours, combined blepharoplasty addresses both upper and lower eyelids, often with facelifts for a cohesive look.
I combine the techniques above, customizing skin and fat adjustments to your anatomy. Incisions in the upper crease and below the lower lash line (or internally) ensure discreet scars.
Fat grafting or SmartLipo may enhance results, and precise suturing preserves eye shape and expression, creating a balanced, youthful eye area that highlights your natural features.
The Recovery Process After Blepharoplasty
Upper Blepharoplasty
Recovery focuses on incision healing, with stitches removed after 5–7 days to avoid marks. You’ll avoid strenuous activities or heavy lifting for 1–2 weeks to prevent swelling or hematomas. Icing and tranexamic acid reduce bruising, which fades within 1–2 weeks, making you socially presentable. About 80% of results are visible by 1 month, with full refinement by 2–3 months. Follow-ups include day one for wound care (cleaning incisions, applying ointment), day three for check-in, and day 5–7 for suture removal.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Recovery is similar, with external incision stitches (if used) removed after 5–7 days and internal incisions dissolving naturally. Swelling and bruising, more noticeable with fat grafting, fade within 1–2 weeks. Avoid rubbing eyes or strenuous activities for 2 weeks. You’ll feel presentable by 1–2 weeks, with 80% of results by 1–2 months and full results by 3–6 months. Follow-ups mirror upper blepharoplasty.
Combined Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty
Recovery combines both processes, with slightly more swelling due to dual areas. Stitches are removed by day 5–7, and restrictions last 2–3 weeks. Bruising and swelling fade within 1–2 weeks, with 80% of results visible by 1–2 months and full refinement by 3–6 months. Follow-ups include day one for wound care, day three for check-in, day 5–7 for suture removal, a one-month photo visit, and optional check-ins at three, six, or twelve months.
Achieving The Most Natural Blepharoplasty Results
Upper Blepharoplasty
I customize upper blepharoplasty to your eyelid shape, removing just enough skin and fat to open the eyes without altering expression. Your commitment to sun protection and post-surgery care, paired with my precise suturing, minimizes scars and ensures a rested look.
Lower Blepharoplasty
I tailor lower blepharoplasty to your midface needs, balancing fat removal and repositioning to avoid a sunken look. Again, your commitment to sun protection and post-surgery care, paired with my precise techniques, minimizes scars and ensures a rested look.
Combined Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty
For combined procedures, I ensure complete rejuvenation, harmonizing upper and lower eyelids with your facial features. My transcutaneous approach and careful fat adjustments create a natural, alert appearance. Non-surgical maintenance like Botox, fillers, or skin tightening can counteract collagen loss (1% annually from age 30), keeping results vibrant for many years to come.

How Long Will My Blepharoplasty Results Last?
This is a major investment in your body and with that there’s an expectation of how long it should last. Longevity depends on a variety of factors including your age, maintaining a stable weight, limiting sun exposure, eating healthily, exercise, and avoiding alcohol/nicotine. Genetics also play a major role too.
When Can I Return To A (Somewhat) Normal Routine?
Bruising and swelling fade within 1-2 weeks and most of my patients feel presentable by the two week mark. You must avoid strenuous activities for 2 weeks. Light routines can resume within 2 weeks and full activities after 3 weeks. Final results vary but usually appear completely by the 4-6 month mark.
I’m Worried How I’ll Look During My Recovery

What Anesthesia Options Are Available?
Options include local with sedation or IV sedation, discussed in consultation and pre-op. Most choose local with sedation, but IV sedation is available for unawareness, tailored to your comfort.
