Mini Facelift
If you’re noticing early signs of jowls, mild lower face laxity, or seeking a subtle refresh after a previous facelift, our mini facelift in Newport Beach is the ideal solution. This advanced SMAS-based procedure effectively targets the lower face and jawline, delivering natural, long-lasting results without the downtime of a full facelift. Unlike superficial techniques that only tighten the skin, we expertly lift and reposition the SMAS layer, enhancing facial definition and restoring youthful contours. Our mini facelift is a powerful option for younger patients or those with minimal neck aging, allowing you to confidently embrace your best self.
Our Patients Before & After Results
Your Consultation: What To Expect During Your Mini Facelift Consultation
During your mini facelift consultation in Newport Beach, we’ll begin by discussing what prompted you to consider this procedure, whether it’s early jowls, lower face sagging, or a desire for a post-facelift refresh.
Using my Anatomy of Aging, I’ll share how 4 layers of your face, your visible skin, fat compartments, muscles, and bone, all contribute to how your face ages. A split image of skin and bone structure illustrates how the SMAS layer impacts your look, and I’ll connect this to the mini facelift’s targeted lifting technique.
We’ll review where I’ll place the shorter incisions along your temple hairline and ear creases, review before-and-after case examples, and discuss the entire 90 minute procedure in detail. Lastly we will discuss the anesthesia options available including local with sedation, IV sedation, or general.
This education ensures your questions align with our goals for a natural, refreshed outcome. You’ll have space to share your concerns, and we’ll craft a personalized plan to address them, exploring complementary options if needed.
Preoperative Preparation
The second appointment we’ll have is your pre-op appointment. It lasts about an hour and takes place about 2 weeks prior to your mini facelift.
During this appointment we’ll review the procedure once again, discuss any specific risks, complete all consent forms, conduct a physical exam, and address medical concerns and existing medications like diabetes and blood pressure with lab work if needed.
We take photos, prescribe medications, and collect payment, while a nurse provides written postoperative care instructions, ensuring you’re prepared without last-minute pharmacy visits.
On the day of surgery, you’ll bring your prescribed medications, which we administer upon check-in. As they take effect I’ll review the surgery again with you, mark the areas, and may supplement oral sedation with an intramuscular injection for comfort during numbing. Local anesthesia allows you to go home promptly post-surgery, fully awake.
Mini Facelift Surgery Walkthrough
Mini facelift surgery lasts about 90 minuets (up to 2 hours for men due to larger tissue areas) and begins with numbing or IV sedation tailored to your preference.
Incisions trace the temple hairline, follow natural ear creases, and extend slightly along the hairline, allowing skin elevation. I lift and tighten the SMAS layer in the lower face, repositioning fat compartments for a natural, defined contour.
Minimal neck muscle tightening may be included, but we avoid addressing the neck’s midline structures, making this ideal for patients satisfied with their neck’s appearance. SmartLipo may be used to tighten skin and stimulate collagen, enhancing jawline definition.
Every step is customized to your facial anatomy, ensuring a refreshed, authentic look with as minimal invasiveness as possible.
The Recovery Process After Mini Facelift Surgery
Recovery focuses on healing your incisions to withstand tension, removing stitches after one week to avoid marks, though restrictions persist for 2–3 weeks to strengthen the skin.
I will advise you to avoid lifting anything over 10–15 pounds or activities that elevate your heart rate (such as hills, stairs, biking) to prevent hematomas.
Starting two weeks pre-surgery, you’ll stop blood thinners, and post-surgery, icing and tranexamic acid injections reduce bruising, which may last 1–3 weeks.
Swelling, more noticeable with facial soft tissue, fades within 1–2 weeks, letting you feel presentable in public. About 80% of your results appear by 1–3 months, with full definition possibly taking longer.
Follow-up includes a day-one visit for wound care training (twice-daily cleaning and ointment), day-three suture removal if needed, and days 7–8 for incision sutures.
We encourage contact for concerns, offering in-person visits after the first week, with a one-month photo visit and optional check-ins at three, six, or twelve months.
This thorough facelift recovery ensures you feel confident throughout your recovery every step of the way!
Achieving The Most Natural Mini Facelift Results
I tailor your mini facelift to your unique features, such as jawline or neck contour preferences, ensuring results feel authentic and refreshed.
Recovery is a partnership: your commitment to avoiding direct sun exposure and following our detailed post-surgery care, combined with my SMAS tightening and precise tissue positioning, minimizes scars and ensures proper healing.
To maintain natural facelift results as aging continues, I offer non-surgical options like fillers for volume, Botox for wrinkles (you lose about 1% collagen annually from age 30), or lasers and microneedling for skin tightening.
Most Common Questions & Concerns My Patients Have About a Mini Facelift
Will My Face Look Tight & Unnatural After a mini Facelift?
One of the most noticeable and unnatural signs of any facial plastic surgery in Newport Beach is that overly tight and stretched appearance. I delicately shift your tissues without stretching the skin tightly, while manipulating deeper layers like the SMAS to remove slack and excess skin. Avoiding this excessive pulling or liposuction prevents distortion. My goal is always the most natural facelift results. You can see numerous examples of my work in our before-and-after gallery. During your consultation we’ll review relevant patient examples in detail so you can see how natural their results look. There is no substitute for these examples.
How Long Will My mini Facelift Results Last?
This is a major investment in your body and with that there’s an expectation of how long it should last. Longevity depends on a variety of factors including your age, maintaining a stable weight, limiting sun exposure, eating healthily, exercise, and avoiding alcohol/nicotine. Genetics also play a major role too.
When Can I Return To A (Somewhat) Normal Routine?
Bruising and swelling usually fades in the first 3 weeks, and most of my patients look presentable within the first 2 weeks. You must avoid heavy lifting or heart-rate-raising activities for the first 3 weeks. Light routines can resume in the first 2 weeks, while full can resume after the 4 week mark. 80% of my patients final results usually show up by the 3 month mark.
I’m Worried How I’ll Look During My Recovery
Bruising and swelling usually fades in the first 3 weeks, and most of my patients look presentable within the first 2 weeks. You must avoid heavy lifting or heart-rate-raising activities for the first 3 weeks. Light routines can resume in the first 2 weeks, while full can resume after the 4 week mark. 80% of my patients’ final results usually show up by the 3 month mark.
Who Isn’t A Good Fit For This?
Not everyone is a good fit for this but most of the patients I meet are. I assess your suitability based on medical history, lifestyle, and expectations. Certain health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, recent organ transplant, smoking, or unrealistic goals may indicate a poor fit. We’ll discuss all of these during your consultation to ensure safety and the best possible outcomes.
Will You Keep In Contact With Me After Surgery?
Of course! Me and my team will see you day 1 for wound care, day 3 for some suture removal, and day 7 for additional suture removal. The one-month visit is especially exciting because this is when we take your after photos. You’ll also have optional check-ins at three, six, or twelve months at your discretion. We are here for you throughout your entire recovery and you will be able to contact us any time.
What Anesthesia Options Are Available?
This is something we’ll discuss during your consultation and your preoperative appointment. There is a misconception that you won’t know what type of anesthesia you’ll get and that is completely false. You’ll know exactly the type you’ll receive and it will be tailored to your level of comfort. We offer local with sedation, IV sedation, or general. Most choose oral sedation, but IV sedation ensures unawareness if preferred. Again, it’s all based on what’s safest and what makes you most comfortable.
Who Is An Ideal Candidate For A mini Facelift?
If you’re in your 30s to 50s, noticing early jowls or lower face laxity, or seeking a post-facelift refresh with minimal neck concerns, you may be a great candidate. Good health and realistic goals are key. We’ll confirm your fit during your consultation to ensure optimal results.
Do You Offer Financing?
Yes we do and we can discuss all your options in detail during your consultation.
