Deep Plane Facelift in Newport Beach

Looking for natural, comprehensive facial rejuvenation? Our Deep Plane Facelift in Newport Beach is a powerful solution for patients seeking lifted cheeks, a redefined jawline, and a smooth, youthful neck contour—all without the overdone look of traditional facelifts.

Unlike superficial facelift techniques that only tighten the skin, this advanced procedure releases key facial ligaments and repositions the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. This allows for true structural lifting, restoring volume where it’s been lost and delivering elegant, long-lasting results that look naturally refreshed, not pulled.

Dr. Fink’s meticulous technique and experience with deep plane facelift surgery ensure a customized, high-impact transformation with minimal signs of surgery. For optimal rejuvenation, the procedure is often combined with complementary treatments such as a browlift, blepharoplasty, or facial fat transfer.

Our Patients Before & After Results

Your Consultation: What To Expect During Your Extended Deep Plane Facelift Consultation

During your deep plane facelift consultation in Newport Beach, we will begin by discussing what led you to consider an extended deep plane facelift. This is your opportunity to share your primary concerns, allowing us to create a customized plan that addresses your top priorities. I prefer to take an educational approach during our consultation to ensure you have a comprehensive understanding of the process.

The primary focus of our consultation will be a discussion about the Anatomy of Aging and facial rejuvenation. I will share diagrams comparing younger and older faces, highlighting how changes in light reflection and features indicate signs of aging.

This comprehensive approach targets not just the outer skin but also all four layers beneath it. These layers include the visible skin, fat compartments, muscles, and even bone. Each of these four components plays a role in the aging of your face, and our deep plane facelift technique addresses all of them.

I will guide you through the process of an extended deep plane facelift surgery. We’ll discuss the specific locations of the incisions, which will be strategically placed around your ear and hairline. I will also show you before-and-after photos of other patients I have helped, giving you a clear idea of the results you can expect. The surgery will be performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia.

The aim of this consultation is to share my approach with you while ensuring that all your questions and concerns are thoughtfully addressed.

Preoperative Preparation

The second appointment will be your pre-operative appointment, which lasts approximately two hours and takes place about two weeks before your Extended Deep Plane Facelift.

During this appointment, we’ll review the procedure once again, discuss any specific risks, complete all necessary consent forms, conduct a physical examination, and address any existing medical concerns. We will need an EKG and necessary blood work for the anesthesia if required, and any concerns regarding existing medications, like blood pressure, will also be considered.

We take photographs, prescribe medications, and collect payments, while a nurse provides written postoperative care instructions to ensure you’re prepared without last-minute trips to the pharmacy.

Before administering anesthesia for your deep plane facelift procedure, Dr. Fink will mark the specific areas on your face and discuss the details of the procedure with you. This will ensure you have a clear understanding of what to expect and help us proceed smoothly on the day of your surgery.

Extended Deep Plane Facelift Surgery Walkthrough

The extended deep plane facelift surgery performed in Newport Beach typically takes around 3 to 3.5 hours to complete and begins with the provision of IV sedation. This approach ensures a comfortable experience for the patient throughout the procedure.

Incisions begin at the temple hairline, tracing across the top of the ear, following your natural creases down the front and around the back, and extending slightly along the hairline.

I typically begin facial rejuvenation with facial fat grafting to restore youthful volume in key areas such as the cheeks and midface. I then use SmartLipo laser technology to enhance jawline definition by tightening the skin and stimulating collagen production for long-term improvement. Targeted liposuction is performed to remove excess fat, and I address any loose or separated neck muscles, sometimes removing fat beneath them to achieve a more sculpted and refined jawline.

Once the foundation is set, I elevate the skin and carefully incise the SMAS fascia (the deeper connective tissue layer). I then release the ligaments between the muscles of facial expression, lifting both the skin and SMAS together as a single unit. This advanced, meticulous technique allows for more natural movement and lasting results.

By working carefully around the facial nerves and structures, I can create beautiful facial contours that have a soft, tapering effect while reducing the risk of nerve injury. The result is a naturally refreshed appearance, avoiding any over-pulled or artificial look.

The Recovery Process After Extended Deep Plane Facelift Surgery

Recovery emphasizes healing incisions to bear tension, with sutures removed after one week to reduce scarring. However, restrictions typically last 2–3 weeks to help strengthen the skin.

I recommend avoiding activities that involve lifting anything over 10–15 pounds or participating in exercises that raise your heart rate, such as climbing hills, using stairs, or biking, to minimize the risk of hematomas.

Two weeks before surgery, you will discontinue blood thinners. After surgery, applying ice can help reduce bruising, which typically lasts between one and three weeks.

Swelling, particularly in the facial soft tissue, typically fades within 1 to 2 weeks for public presentation. About 80% of the results are visible within 1 to 3 months, while full definition may take longer.

Follow-up consists of a day-one visit for wound care training, which includes twice-daily wound care and the application of ointment. A day-three visit will address suture removal if needed, and days seven to eight are scheduled for incision suture removal.

We understand that you may have concerns, and we are here to support you. After the first week, we invite you to schedule in-person visits for a more personal touch. We also offer a one-month photo visit to see how things are progressing, along with optional check-ins at three, six, or twelve months to ensure you feel supported every step of the way. Your well-being is important to us.

We understand that recovering from a deep plane facelift can be challenging, but rest assured, our supportive recovery process is designed to help you feel confident and cared for every step of the way.

Achieving The Most Natural Extended Deep Plane Facelift Results

I customize each deep plane facelift to align with your individual features, including preferences for cheek definition and chin projection, thereby ensuring that the outcomes are both natural and authentic.

Recovery is a partnership: your commitment to avoiding direct sun exposure and following our detailed post-surgery care, along with my deep-layer techniques, will minimize scars and ensure proper healing.

To effectively maintain your youthful appearance as you age, I offer a range of non-surgical options that can help you achieve your desired results. Treatments like fillers can enhance volume, while Botox can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, especially considering that collagen loss begins at a rate of about 1% per year starting at age 30. Additionally, I offer advanced options, including lasers and chemical peels, which can further enhance your skin’s rejuvenation. Together, we can create a personalized approach to help you feel confident and vibrant at any age.

Most Common Questions & Concerns My Patients Have About An Extended Deep Plane Facelift

One of the most common signs of unnatural facial plastic surgery is an overly tight or stretched appearance. At my Newport Beach practice, I take a different approach—carefully repositioning facial tissues and addressing the deeper layers, such as the SMAS, rather than simply pulling the skin. This allows me to eliminate laxity and excess skin without distortion or overcorrection. By avoiding aggressive pulling and unnecessary liposuction, I can deliver results that look balanced, refreshed, and completely natural.

You can explore many examples of my work in our before-and-after gallery. During your consultation, we’ll review cases most relevant to your goals, allowing you to see firsthand how subtle and natural facelift results can be when performed with skill and precision.

Investing in cosmetic procedures for your face comes with the expectation that results will be long-lasting. The longevity of these results depends on several factors, including your age, maintaining a stable weight, limiting sun exposure, eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding alcohol and nicotine. Additionally, genetics play a significant role in how long the effects last. As a result, some individuals may consider a mini facelift in Newport Beach 10 to 15 years later for an added refresh.

Bruising and swelling usually subside within the first 3 weeks, and most of my patients appear presentable within the first 2 weeks. You should avoid heavy lifting or activities that raise your heart rate for the first three weeks. Light routines can resume within the first two weeks, while full routines can resume after the four-week mark. Approximately 80% of my patients’ final results typically appear by the 3-month mark.

Normal bruising/swelling is managed with pre-surgery blood thinner cessation, tranexamic acid, and icing. Swelling always persists longer with facial tissue, but most feel ready to resume most of their social life within by the 2 week mark.

Not everyone is a suitable candidate for this, but most of the patients I meet are. I evaluate your compatibility based on your medical history, lifestyle, and goals. Certain health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, recent organ transplants, smoking, or having unrealistic expectations, may suggest that you are not a good fit. We will discuss all of these factors during your consultation to ensure your safety and achieve the best possible outcomes.

Absolutely! My team and I will see you on Day 1 for wound care, Day 3 for suture removal, and Day 7 for additional suture removal. The one-month visit is particularly exciting because we will take your after photos at that time. You will also have the option for follow-up check-ins at three, six, or twelve months, based on your preference. We are here to support you throughout your entire recovery process, and you can contact us at any time.

An essential part of your surgical planning is selecting the type of anesthesia, which will be thoroughly discussed during your consultation and preoperative appointment. There’s a common misconception that you won’t know what anesthesia you’ll receive, but that’s not true. You’ll know exactly what to expect, and it’ll be explicitly tailored to your comfort and safety needs.

For patients undergoing a deep plane facelift, the two options are IV sedation or general anesthesia. Most of our patients prefer IV sedation, which enables a smooth and comfortable experience with minimal awareness during the procedure. However, if general anesthesia is more appropriate or preferred, that option is also available.

Dr. Fink will personally review both choices with you in detail to help determine the safest and most comfortable approach for your individual needs.

If you’re starting to notice sagging cheeks, jowls, or neck looseness and are seeking natural-looking facelift results in Newport Beach, you may be an ideal candidate for a deep plane facelift. While many patients are in their 40s to 60s, we also see individuals as young as their 30s and into their early 80s who want to restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

During your consultation, we’ll review your goals, health history, and facial anatomy to determine if this advanced technique is right for you. The deep plane approach is designed to create balanced, long-lasting results, without a tight or “pulled” look.
